In 1974-75, the Southern California College wrestling team won its third straight NAIA District 3 Championship,

compiling an undefeated season. The team was 20-0 in dual matches and won all five tournaments they entered. With the perfect season, Southern California College won 35 consecutive matches. The team qualified six members to the NAIA National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa, including Paul La Blanc at 157 pounds, who finished fourth in the country – the highest ever finish in Vanguard Wrestling history in that era.Â
The 1975 NAIA All-American in the 157-pound weight class had an incredible season as he went 30-2 personal record in his matches. He holds program records in total falls (18), fastest fall (18 seconds), and is fourth in dual win percentage (93.75%) from the original era of the program.Â
During his lone campaign with Vanguard, he never lost a team dual as the team placed first at the Biola Invitational, University of California San Diego Takedown Tournament, Southern California College Invitational, and Cal Tech Invitational, before going on to win the NAIA District III Championship and placing 19th at the NAIA National Championships. La Blanc won the 157-pound weight class at the 1975 NAIA District III Championship, one of nine wrestlers to do it across the 10 weight classes in the three years of the program’s first edition. He was named Outstanding Wrestler at the Cal Tech Invitational where we won the 157-pound weight class.Â
On November 9, 2007 Paul La Blanc was inducted into the Vanguard Athletics Hall of Fame as a part of the 1974-1975 Wrestling team along with teammates Willie Albright,Â
Guy Blevins, Ron Brown, Doug Byrd, Robert Hernandez, Don Hill, Chuck Kehler, Mario La Casse, Randy Powell, Taylor Puryear, Chuck Rains, Russ Rice, Jerry Ternes, Willie Williams,
Lloyd Zeigler, Pat Zeigler, and coach Jack Robinson.Â
The 1974-75 wrestling team was the second team to be inducted into the Vanguard University Athletic Department Hall of Fame.
In Spring 2019, Vanguard University Athletics announced the restoration of Vanguard Wrestling after a 39-year hiatus. From the jump, La Blanc was a tremendous asset to new Head Coach Caleb Flores and was in attendance for both the first match in The Pit on November 7, 2019 as well as the Wrestling Kick-Off Dinner.Â
