Sportsmanship and Spectator Guidelines

SPORTSMANSHIP: VANGUARD UNIVERSITY SPECTATOR BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES

  • Remember that you are at the contest to support and yell for your team and to enjoy the skill and competition on display . . . not to intimidate or ridicule the other team or its fans.
  • A ticket is a privilege to observe the contest, not a license to verbally assault others or be obnoxious.
  • Show respect for the players, coaches, spectators, and support groups. Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. Understand that they are doing their best to help promote the student-athlete and admire their willingness to participate in full view of the public.
  • Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.
  • Use only cheers that support and uplift the teams involved.
  • Be a positive role model at events through your own actions and by censuring those around you whose behavior is unbecoming.

Vanguard University expects fans to cheer on their team while remaining respectful and courteous to their fellow patrons, officials and opposing team fans and players. Fans are expected to respect and comply with requests from athletics administration regarding policies and emergency procedures.

The following actions that will result in sanctions include, but are not limited to:

  • Behavior that is reckless, dangerous, disruptive, or illegal in nature.
  • Demonstrating signs of impairment from alcohol or other substances.
  • Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.
  • Interference with the progress of the game.
  • Failure to follow the instructions of game management personnel, university officials or campus safety.
  • Verbal or physical harassment of the opposing team’s players or fans, field officials, or game management personnel.

Sanctions may include ejection, loss of season admission, loss of access to campus, and/or arrest.
