LONG BEACH, Calif. -- With two Pacific West Conference wins, including an incredible victory over Westmont Saturday night, Vanguard women's basketball was named the PacWest Women's Basketball Team of the Week today.  This is the fourth weekly victory for VU as a team since joining the PacWest, and the second time this season that the honor has come to Vanguard.
 
The Lions were not challenged by the Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo last Thursday, with six players getting 10 or more points and Micaela Hanning putting up more assists than some have in a season.  Then, trailing by 21 against a team ahead of them in the standings, the Blue and Gold rallied and overcame their deficit to shock the Warriors.  Shooting 42% in the third and 66% in the fourth, including going 3-for-4 from downtown, Emma Schaaf made the final lead change of the night with a triple with 32 seconds left.  VU had not led since the 3:20 mark of the second quarter. Westmont, meanwhile, made only two field goals, includig one three, in the fourth frame.  Kaylee Byon and Kayla Boozer each had 19 points to lead all players.

The Lions are now a game back of APU and are tied with PLNU entering this week's slate, which includes a Thursday night clash with APU and a Friday tilt at home against CUI.
