Women's Golf Fifth at Cal Lutheran Invite

MOORPARK, Calif.  -- Vanguard women's golf has been off for just over a month, but the lineup finally returned to the links the past two days, as VU took part in the Cal Lutheran Regals Invitational.  The Lions finished fifth out of the 11 teams with 650 strokes (326-324), 74 shots over par.  The Lions were just two shots back of Menlo and one ahead of Whitworth (Wash.).  Pomona-Pitzer won the event by going 15 shots over par as a team and Federica Domecq Lacroze won the individual crown for the Sagehens by shooting one-under par.

The Course:  Moorpark Country Club hosted the 11 teams and 58 individuals the past two days and the facility is made up of a trio of nine-hole courses.  Designed by Peter Jacobsen and built in 2004, the holes of each course meander through the hills and canyons of the area and has plenty of tough approaches and bunkers to make each hole uniquely challenging.  Each course is a par 36 and have yardages of over 3,400 yards.

What Happened?  Brooklyn Motske was the top Vanguard golfer for the event, as she posted rounds of 77 and 76 (153) to finish tied for ninth in the standings at nine-over par.  Shyla Tigilau was second for VU and had a tally of 156 to end tied for 14th, but she shaved off five strokes from round one (81) to round two (76).  Zoee Lynch was in a tie for 31st at the conclusion of the tournament, with rounds of 82 and 83 for a two-day total of 165.  Rachel Chambers ended the event tied for 48th after scores of 86-89 gave her a final score of 175.  Shanaya Neru rounded out the lineup for the Blue and Gold with scores of 87-90 for a combined score of 177 strokes, finishing tied for 52nd.

What was Said?  "Another solid performance from senior Brooklyn Motske, as well as junior Shyla Tigilau.  We are trending in the right direction with the conference championship about a month away," said Head Coach Jeff Anderson.

What's Next?  The Lions will travel to the OUAZ Spring Invite on March 18-19 at the Sundance Golf Club.
