LA JOLLA, PALO ALTO & SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. – Vanguard women's track and field sent athletes to various meets around California over the weekend, testing their abilities against some top competition from the NCAA Division I and II ranks.
Three Lions participated in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, hosted by San Francisco State.
Kate Baranski finished 54th in a field of 136 runners in the 5000 meters, traversing the course in 17:33.15.
In the 1500 meters, Jessina Morales showcased her abilities by placing 40th in a field of 186 runners, posting a time of 4:37.66.
Megan Charley turned in a time of 2:14.48 in the 800 meters, finishing 54th among 171 competitors.
A group of four Lions headed to the Stanford Invitational against elite competition in the sprints.
Senior Brooke Dalgity ran the 100 meters in 12.23 seconds and finished 13th in the 200, clocking a time of 24.59.
Eryn Burke (25.12) and Elizabeth Betten (25.33) also competed in the 200. Eryn Burke took part in the 400 meter run and posted a time of 55.59.
In the 4x400 relay, Eryn Burke, Jordyn Burke, Betten and Dalgity notched the fastest VU time this season, placing eighth overall in 3:48.45.
In La Jolla, the larger VU contingent competed in the Triton Invitational.
Jaelah Butler appeared in four field events, leading the way in the discus (120-10/36.83m), shot put (38-02.75/11.65m), hammer (148-07/45.29m) and javelin (91-05/27.88m).
Aaliyah Espinoza joined Butler in the discus, garnering a top throw of 98 feet, 6 inches (30.04m).
In the javelin, Andrea Espinoza Noriega heaved a top distance of 72-04 (22.06m).
Freshman Briana Martin tied for 17th in the triple jump, clearing 34-06.75 (10.53m).
Sprinter Jillian Orm appeared in the 100 meter dash (13.30) and 200 (27.94).
In the 400 meter run, Ariana Rodriguez got close to entering the VU top-10 as she finished in 58.93 seconds. The No. 10 spot on the VU leaderboard is 58.69.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of Rodriguez, Mary Sawczuk, Bellela Colas and Sophia Linder posted a time of 4:05.26.
In the distance events, Sydney Sydney ran the 1500 meters in 4:55.39.
Three Lions competed in the 5000 meters, with Giselle Rubio leading the way in 18:38.80. Sydney Sydney followed in 19:09.01 and Emily Noyes was next in 19:27.98.
Kaitlyn Barragan competed in the 10000 meters with a time of 43:14.21.
What's Next?: The Lions will participate in their final meet before the PacWest Championships, tuning up at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, April 12.
