Women’s Track and Field Adds Six More Top 10 Performances

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Vanguard women's track and field team continues to get better as the squad put up six all-time top 10 marks at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Brooke Dalgity played a role in three of them. The sprinter from Yucaipa won the 200 meters in 24.57 seconds – the second-fastest time in Vanguard history. She also competed in the 100 meter dash and posted a time of 12.06, which landed her in the No. 4 spot on the VU leaderboard.

Dalgity ran the anchor leg in the 4x400 relay with teammates Megan Charley, Eryn Burke and Elizabeth Betten, and the quartet clocked a winning time of 3:48.52. The effort placed them at No. 4 in the school's record book and first among PacWest teams in 2025.

The Lions nudged their way up another all-time list as senior Jessina Morales ran the second-fastest 1500 meter race in Blue and Gold annals. She finished in third place with an effort of 4:33.91. Kate Baranski, who sits third all-time in the 1500 (4:34.66), nearly beat her personal-best with a performance of 4:34.68.

Morales ranks fourth in the PacWest in the 1500 this season.

In the 800 meter run, senior Eryn Burke climbed to No. 6 all-time at VU with a time of 2:15.75.

The field events featured one top-10 addition as freshman Gimena Hurtado threw the discus a distance of 114 feet even, placing her at No. 8 in the VU record book.

The Lions had other strong displays at the Point Loma-hosted meet. Senior Jordyn Burke, the school record holder in the 400 meter hurdles, finished in second place with a time of 1:02.66. She is fourth on the PacWest leaderboard with that performance.

Megan Charley, the Idaho State transfer, just missed cracking the VU top-10 in the 400 meters as she sprinted to 58.85.  Jordan Davidson's 58.69 from 2014 still stands in the No. 10 spot.

Betten turned in a fourth place showing the 200 meters with her time of 25.19 seconds. She also finished the 100 meter dash in 12.29.

Jaelah Butler was the top VU finisher in the shot put (39-02.25/11.94m) and discus (123-11/37.78m).

In the long jump and triple jump, freshman Briana Martin posted marks of 16-06.50 (5.04m) and 31-00.00 (9.45m).

What's Next?: Vanguard participates in the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic on Saturday, March 22.
