Women’s Track and Field Rewrites Five Marks In Record Book

IRVINE, Calif. – The Vanguard women's track and field team displayed their outstanding depth of talent at the Vince O'Boyle Invitational on Saturday at Anteater Stadium.

The Lions had top-10 record book improvements in five of the six events they participated in.

Senior Brooke Dalgity maintained her hold on the No. 2 spot in the 100 meters, but ran the first under 12 second race of her career. She improved from 12.02 to 11.99 as she raced alongside some of the PacWest's best along with NCAA Division I athletes from UC Irvine and UC Riverside.

Dalgity also lowered her personal-best from 24.57 to 24.45 in the 200 meters. She remained at No. 2 at VU, but moved closer to the all-time record of 24.28 held by Eryn Burke. Dalgity's 24.45 ranks seventh-fastest in the PacWest this season.

As far as Eryn Burke, the senior improved upon her personal-best in the 800 meters by nearly two seconds while maintaining her hold on the No. 6 spot at VU. Burke lowered her time from 2:15.75 to 2:13.96 as she placed second in the event. She led a contingent of five Lions, which also included Ariana Rodriguez (2:22.30), Sydney Sydney (2:25.18), Mary Sawczuk (2:25.95) and Hailey Quiroz (2:34.94).

The Lions also had two throwers improve in the record book ranks.

School record holder Jaelah Butler threw the shot put more than an inch farther than her previous best of 41-09.25, reaching a distance of 41 feet, 10.5 inches (12.76m). Butler ranks fifth in the PacWest with that throw.

Butler also was the top thrower in the discus with a clearance of 115-05 (35.18m). Freshman Andrea Espinoza Noriega moved from 10th to eighth on the school's all-time list with her performance of 114 feet, 9 inches (34.97m). Her previous top mark was 113-01.

The Lions also competed in the 400 meter dash with Sophia Linder clocking 1:00.83 and Bellela Colas 1:03.74.

What's Next?: The Lions compete at the Triton Invitational next Friday and Saturday. In addition, Vanguard will send Eryn Burke, Jordyn Burke, Elizabeth Betten and Dalgity to the Stanford Invitational, as well as Megan Charley, Kate Baranski and Jessina Morales to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, hosted by San Francisco State.
