CLAREMONT, Calif. – Senior Brooke Dalgity established a new Vanguard record in the 400 meters to highlight a banner afternoon of women's track and field performances at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday.
The Lions posted seven top-10 program efforts in the precursor to the PacWest Championships, which will be contested in two weeks.
Dalgity contributed to three of those all-time performances. She unseated Eryn Burke from the top spot with a time of 54.71 in the 400, eclipsing the 54.78 that Burke achieved on March 2, 2024. Dalgity, who won the event, owns the third-fastest time in the PacWest.
The Yucaipa senior improved her No. 2 time on the school's 200 meters list with a 24.31 performance.
The 4x400 relay team of Megan Charley, Eryn Burke, Elizabeth Betten and Dalgity blazed to victory in 3:45.62, the second-fastest time in the Blue and Gold record book. The performance ranks No. 3 in the PacWest.
Eryn Burke set a personal-best and vaulted to No. 5 in the VU record book with her 2:13.50 effort in the 800 meters. The senior finished third in the event, ahead of Megan Charley (2:15.67), Kate Baranski (2:19.30) and Jessina Morales (2:20.07).
In the 400 meter hurdles, Hannah Finch cracked the all-time top-10 as she clocked 1:09.61.
The throwers got in on the act as well as freshman Andrea Espinoza Noriega notched the No. 3 mark in VU history in the discus, clearing 129 feet, 9 inches (39.54m). Kaylee Jones grabbed the No. 4 spot, right behind Espinoza Noriega, as she heaved the discus 124-03 (37.87m).
Jaelah Butler finished second in the shot put with a top mark of 41-00.25 (12.50m) and posted a season-best in the hammer, throwing a distance of 153 feet, 5 inches (46.77m).
Betten ran 24.82 in the 200, with teammate Sophia Linder earning a personal-best in 27.15 seconds. Linder also recorded a personal-best in the 400 meters in 1:00.39.
Ten Lions participated in the 1500 meter run, as Baranski recorded the top time in 4:36.59. Morales was next in 4:47.97, followed by personal-bests from Sydney Sydney (4:50.93) and Giselle Rubio (4:56.01).
Freshman Briana Martin achieved a personal-best in the long jump, posting a top clearance of 16-10.50.
What's Next?: The PacWest Championships will be hosted by Fresno Pacific on April 25-26.
