RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In a season full of great performances, the Vanguard women's track and field team added to the list on Saturday at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic.
The Lions posted a pair of first-place finishes along with three seconds and a third as competition included NCAA Division I teams UC Riverside and UC Irvine.
In addition, two Lions either moved up or joined the school's all-time top-10 with their efforts.
Senior Brooke Dalgity jumped from fourth into a tie for second, sprinting the 100 meter dash in 12.02 seconds. She sits alongside Jordan Davidson for the No. 2 spot.
Dalgity, who also ranks No. 2 at VU in the 200 meters, finished second in the race with a time of 24.80.
The newcomer to the record book is senior Kaylee Jones. The Redding, Calif. native hurled the discus a distance of 116 feet, 9 inches (35.60m) to land in the No. 6 spot. Five current Lions inhabit a spot in the top-10 for the discus.
Winning the 4x100 relay was the sister tandem of Eryn Burke and Jordyn Burke, along with Dalgity and Elizabeth Betten in 46.59 seconds.
Megan Charley captured first place in the 800 meters in 2:16.59. Mary Sawczuk (2:26.87), Sydney Sydney (2:32.14), Hailey Quiroz (2:41.47) and Kaitlyn Barragan (2:45.73) also competed in the event.
In the 400 meter run, school record holder Eryn Burke flirted with her all-time best of 54.78, finishing her trip around the oval in 54.94. She also finished third in the 200 meters in 25.09.
Jordan Burke, No. 1 at Vanguard in the 400 hurdles (1:00.81), posted a 1:01.27 for second place.
Senior Jessina Morales was VU's top finisher in the 5000 meters, coming in third with a time of 18:21.53. Madyson Nakamura (19:14.84) and Emily Noyes (19:43.97) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the hammer, Jaelah Butler led all Lions with a top throw of 137 feet, 10 inches (42.03m). Jones was right behind her at 135-09 (41.39m). Freshman Gimena Hurtado notched a personal-best distance of 108-06 (33.07m).
Butler also competed in the shot put (39-10/12.14m), discus (122-10/37.44m) and javelin (101-02/30.83m).
Freshman Briana Martin registered a personal-best in the triple jump at 33 feet, 10 inches (10.31m). She also participated in the long jump with a best effort of 16-02.50 (4.94m).
What's Next?: The Lions participate in the Vince O'Boyle Invitational on March 28-29 at UC Irvine.
