LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Vanguard women's track and field earned two event victories and landed four performances within the all-time top-10 on Saturday at the Occidental Invitational.
Senior Brooke Dalgity captured gold in the 400 meters in 56.34 seconds, outracing the sister tandem of Eryn Burke (57.24) and Jordyn Burke (58.70) – both of whom placed in the top five.
A busy Jaelah Butler competed in four field events, winning the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 5.25 inches (12.63m). She also placed third in both the discus (114-00/34.85m) and javelin (100-11/30.77m), and earned a fourth place showing in the hammer (142-00/43.29m).
Senior Jessina Morales chopped off 20 seconds on her personal-best in the 5000 meters, notching the fifth-best time in school history and the sixth-fastest time in the PacWest this season. She finished in 17:27.54 for ninth place in the event. Freshman Giselle Rubio lowered her PR by nearly 14 seconds as she clocked 18:03.64.
A recent transfer to Vanguard, Megan Charley displayed her talent in the 800 meters as the Lake Elsinore native ran 2:13.56 in the 800 meters – putting her at No. 5 in the VU record book.
In the shot put, Kaylee Jones upped her personal-best to 37 feet, 10 inches as she now sits fourth all-time at Vanguard.
Freshman Andrea Espinoza Noriega made her mark in the discus with the ninth-best throw all-time for the Blue and Gold, clearing 113-01 (34.46m).
The Lions posted solid performances in a number of other events.
Elizabeth Betten placed fourth in the 100 meters in 12.64 seconds.
Freshman Madyson Nakamura led a crop of runners in the 10000 meters. She was the top VU finisher in eighth place, sporting a 38:54.78, with Sydney Sydney right behind in 10th (39:50.58).
Briana Martin took part in the long jump (16-06.50/5.04m) and triple jump (33-09.50/10.30m). Her leap in the long jump earned her a seventh place finish.
