OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – Vanguard traveled across the country to compete in the Music City Classic, finishing in sixth place among 12 teams as the 54-hole event concluded on Tuesday.
The Lions had an aggregate score of 944 (316-309-319), 80 strokes over par. The Lions began the event in eighth place after one round, but jumped up two spots following round two and maintained their standing through the end of the tournament.
VU was 15 strokes behind fifth place Milligan at 929 (307-313-309) and finished two strokes ahead of seventh place Rocky Mountain – 946 (315-324-307).
The tournament champion was Keiser University, which tallied an 11-over 875 and shot rounds of 295, 288 and 292.
Four Keiser golfers landed in the top-10 individually, including medalist Hoi Ki Lau. She was the only golfer in the field of 73 competitors to finish below par, carding two-under 214 (72-70-72).
For the Lions, Shyla Tigilau was the top performer. She tied for 13th with a 54-hole score of 12-over 228 (77-75-76).
Brooklyn Motske started out in a tie for fourth after 36 holes, shooting consecutive rounds of 74. She struggled in round three with an 84 and finished in a tie for 20th at 16-over 232.
Shanaya Neru ended up in a tie for 34th (236, +20) with two straight rounds of 78 following an opening 80 through the first 18 holes. Zoee Lynch came in 52nd with a 32-over score of 248 (85-82-81), and Arabella Mishek was 72nd at 302 (+86).
What's Next?: The GSAC Championships will be contested April 15-17 in Surprise, Ariz.
