ROCKLIN, Calif. -- Vanguard STUNT returned to the mat for the conclusion of the Jessup Tournament on Saturday and the team secured two victories. VU took a 21-2 win over George Fox (Ore.) and a 24-3 victory over UC Davis to improve to 9-4 overall and finish the event at 3-1.
What Happened? VU almost had a clean slate in the first quarter of partner stunts against George Fox, as the Blue and Gold took all but one routine to lead 3-1 entering the second frame. In the second period of pyramids and tosses, the Lions were clinical in taking all four points available, and the team did the same in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling to raise the lead to 11-1 entering the fourth quarter. The combined performances favored Vanguard for all but one point, as the team secured the 21-2 victory.
Brenna Higdon was the highest-rated player in the match for the Lions, with
Isabella Long named the VU stunter of the game and
Abigail Dowd the tumbler of the game.
The Blue and Gold took it up a notch against UC Davis, as the team took every possible point on offer. While the Aggies had three routines throughout the competition that they scored on as well, the Lions were never bothered and took a 24-3 win, the second 24-point performance at event.
Graysen Young was announced as Vanguard's highest-rated player,
Grace Hartanov got the VU stunter of the game honor, and
Melina Torres was the VU tumbler of the contest.
What was Said? "It was a great tournament at Jessup. Two perfect scores and a total of three wins on the road," said Head Coach Leslie Allen.
What's Next? The Lions will host Concordia Irvine and the University of Kentucky on Wednesday night at CUI, with the Lions slated to play at 6:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
