Victory Over NNU Closes Out JU Tournament

ROCKLIN, Calif. -- The final day of the Jessup Tournament for Vanguard STUNT ended with a split, as the Lions fell to Cal Poly SLO but defeated Northwest Nazarene for the second time to bookend the event with wins.  The Lions improved to 5-8 on the year.

What Happened?  It was two rematches for the Blue and Gold on Saturday, and against the Mustangs, Cal Poly jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the first quarter of partner stunts.  Improving in the second frame of pyramids and tosses, the Lions took four points, but the Mustangs snared seven to lead 12-5 at the break.  It was all CP in the third interval of jumps and tumbling, as the Mustangs led 16-5 entering the fourth quarter of the combined routines.  VU grabbed two points during the final stanza, as CP scored 14 to win 31-7.

Against the Nighthawks, the Blue and Gold fared better, scoring six points in the first quarter to hold a 6-2 advantage.  A very strong effort in the second advanced the Vanguard lead to 11-3 entering the third, which was the highest scoring of the first three frames.  NNU had four points, while the Blue and Gold captured six to enter the fourth ahead 17-7.  With 14 points in the fourth, VU eased its way to a 31-12 victory over the first-year program.

What was Said?  "The Lions fought hard.  We faced adversity and came together stronger as a team, and we will continue to carry that into the rest of the season," said Head Coach Salonia Harper.

What's Next?  The CBU Joust is up next for STUNT, with matches against Hawaii Pacific and Arizona Christian slated for Friday, March 13.
