RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Vanguard STUNT captured a brace of games tonight at the CBU Joust with wins over Hawaii Pacific and Arizona Christian. The Lions showed quality performances in all three quarters to improve to 7-8 on the season, beating HPU 25-8 and ACU 23-6. The squad returns to Riverside tomorrow for a 3:15 p.m. game against Arizona State.

The Sharks bit first in the opening quarter of partner stunts, and HPU went on to win the interval 4-3. But the Lions pounced in the second quarter of pyramids and tosses with a clean sweep to turn the score in favor of VU 7-4 entering halftime. The Blue and Gold came ready to tumble in quarter three, putting up four points to Hawaii Pacific's one to extend the lead to 11-5. VU was able to put it all together again in the fourth quarter of the combined routines, scoring 14 points in the frame to win 25-8.

Game two for the Lions was against the Firestorm, and VU started out with a bang by outscoring ACU 4-1. Entering quarter two, Vanguard's encore entailed five more points in pyramids and tosses to close the first half ahead 9-3. VU again proved the better side in the third period, taking the interval 4-1 to extend the edge to 13-2. The Lions then finished out the day with 10 points in quarter four, finalizing a score of 23-6 and leaving day one with two wins.
