CLAREMONT, Calif. – Vanguard men's track and field headed to Burns Stadium to compete in the 30th Carl Rossi Relays, taking eighth amongst the field at Claremont College on Saturday. The sprint medley team rolled to a new school record, while freshman
Landon Torres headlined in 400m hurdles with a top-three in program history.
What Happened? The record-breaking 800m sprint medley relay was comprised of
Deyton Ford,
Lenier Pitts Jr.,
Andre Hackett, and
Donovan Ralls. The quartet secured a top 10 finish at the event and set a school record at 1:35.94.
Torres took little time to get acquainted with the 400m hurdles, punching in a 57.27 time in his debut, the third fastest time in program history, crossing paths with Zach Powell's run back in 2006.
Closing out the hurdles was
Chris Watson, who was slated in lane four and finished in fourth for the Blue and Gold in the 110 hurdles, coming in at 15.03.
The 4x800 relay team of
Jack Slavin,
Isaiah Feaver,
Jayden Sanchez, and
Cooper Anderson was fifth place with a 7:54.76 race.
All four runners in the 3000m run plotted personal bests, with
Ommar Arroyo being VU's top-placer at 8:51.05. He was joined by
Jesse O'Campo (8:52.09),
Caleb Dickerson (9:16.27), and
Rylan Starnes (10:05.98).
Addison Altermatt was the only competitor for men's high jump, taking 16th at 1.74m.
Beau Swett, meanwhile, set the pace on long jump (6.36m, 20' 10½") in 15th.

What's Next? The Lions have two weeks to prepare for the Occidental Invitational on Saturday, March 14 at Jack Kemp Stadium in Los Angeles.
