COSTA MESA -- Vanguard STUNT tussled with CUI on Wednesday night inside the Freed Center, and though the Lions upped their scoring from the weekend, the Golden Eagles won 23-18.  CUI improved to 5-2 overall and the Lions fell to 4-3.
 
What Happened?  The Blue and Gold snagged the first point of the night on routine four of partner stunts, but CUI grabbed the next point on routine five.  The squads each scored on the next act, but CUI took the final routine of the frame 2-1 to take a 4-3 advantage.  The second frame of pyramids and tosses ended up at an even split, as both CUI and VU were award three total points to put the Golden Eagles ahead 7-6 at the break.
 
CUI pulled away in the third interval of jumps and tumbling, scoring three points until the Lions added two over the last two performances to make the score 10-8.  In the combined routines of the fourth quarter, CUI won the first act, routine four, 4-2, opening the gap on the Lions.  Each squad then scored three points on the next routine, and then two on the third, but the Golden Eagles were leading 19-15 with one performance to go.  The Blue and Gold got three points on the curtain call, but CUI were awarded four to win 23-18
