STUNT Opens Busy Home Slate

COSTA MESA -- Vanguard STUNT played its first two homes matches of the season Saturday but fell in both contests, as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo won 31-14 and Jessup prevailed 29-7.  VU dropped to 3-3.

What Happened?  The Lions scored one point in each of the first three routines of the first quarter of partner stunts, but the Mustangs scored two points in each of those to lead 6-3.  Routine seven concluded the period, and Cal Poly took the lone point to hold a 7-3 edge.  In the second period of pyramids and tosses, CP scored a point in every performance, and two for routine one, with the Blue and Gold netting its only point during that routine.

Trailing 12-4 at the half, the Lions could not make much of a dent in the third period of jumps and tumbling, as CP took the frame 6-2, with VU scoring one point on each of the final two routines.  In the fourth quarter of the combined routines, the Lions scored four points on the first called act, routine one, the same as CP.  However, Cal Poly won the next one, routine six, 4-1.  VU called routine eight after that, with no one scoring, and the Mustangs took the final routine, routine two, 5-3, to tally a 31-14 victory.

JU 29 VU 7
The Blue and Gold tallied a point on routine two in the first quarter, but that was it, as Jessup plowed ahead 8-1 by halftime.  The third period saw VU score three points over the first trio of routines, though JU scored two, with the visitors taking the last point on routine seven to lead 15-4 entering the fourth quarter.  JU won the fourth quarter 14-3, with VU only scoring on the first act of the period.  The Warriors called only one routine that was under level six, as Jessup called routine five to end the fourth quarter, with JU taking it 3-0.

What was Said?  "It was a tough couple of games, but we also learned some important lessons," said Head Coach Salonia Harper.  "Luckily, we have a rematch with each team up north again later this season, and we will get back at it next week for a big home match against CUI."

What's Next?  Vanguard returns to the Freed Center on Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. match against CUI.
