SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After two thrilling matches on Friday, Vanguard STUNT added another overtime contest on Saturday as the Lions could not find much separation against Cal Poly. Unfortunately, this time the Lions could not secure the needed points in OT, as the Mustangs prevailed 19-16. The Lions dropped to 6-9 and CP improved to 6-5.
What Happened? The first quarter of partner stunts was even, as both teams were awarded three points. The Mustangs advanced in the second quarter of pyramids and tosses, as the hosts took the period 3-1 to lead 6-4 at halftime. The Blue and Gold were consistent in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling to take a point on every routine, and though CP were given three points, VU took the interval 4-3. Down 9-8, VU posted eight points in the combined routines of the final frame, outscoring CP by one to tie things at 16-16. The two sides began the overtime period with the fourth routine of quarter four, but after it was done, the Mustangs were given all three points to quickly claim the win.
