NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Opening the 2025 STUNT National Tournament, Vanguard grabbed its first victory in the DII Division with a 13-6 victory over CUI. The Lions won three of the four quarters by at least two points and held the Golden Eagles to their lowest point total in a game that was not to CBU. The Lions improved to 7-11 and CUI fell to 11-10.
What Happened? The Blue and Gold snagged the first quarter of partner stunts 3-1 to gain an early advantage, but CUI was at its best in the second frame. The Golden Eagles ended the second quarter of pyramids and tosses with an even 2-2 split with VU to make the score 5-3 entering halftime. The Lions were nearly perfect in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling, taking the interval 4-1. With a 9-4 edge, the Lions were careful with their routine selections in the final quarter of the combined routines and the squad hit the acts it needed to stick. The Lions took the fourth 4-2 to win 13-6 and advance to Friday in the winner's bracket.
Vanguard will play top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist, as the Bison beat Maryville 16-11 today to advance. The two sides will square off at 3:30 p.m. PT. CUI goes to the bottom of the bracket and will be in an elimination matchup with St. Mary's (Texas) tomorrow.
