COSTA MESA -- The Vanguard STUNT program squared off with California Baptist Thursday night in the first STUNT contest in the Freed Center for Leadership & Service. VU snagged a pair of points during the contest, but CBU grabbed its 90th straight win with a 24-2 decision. CBU improved to 10-0 this season and VU dropped to 0-6.
The Lions looked smart in the routines that they called, but the Lancers took all of the points in quarters 1-3 to lead 12-0. The final frame of the combined routines is when the Blue and Gold hit level pegging with CBU, as the Lions struck for points in two different phases. Routine five was the first act called and VU and CBU were each awarded a point for the jumps and tumbling portion of the performance. After CBU got all three points on routine eight, the hardest one on the docket, VU and the Lancers were declared equal and got a point apiece in the partner stunts portion of routine one.
Tenley Romberger was listed as the highest-rated player for VU,
Destanie Saunders was named the squad's stunter of the match, and
McKenna Rowe was the tumbler of the game for the Blue and Gold.
What's Next? Vanguard will play George Fox University (Ore.) at Hope International on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
