ROCKLIN, Calif. -- Vanguard STUNT squared off against Arizona State and the hosting Jessup Warriors Saturday for the altered Jessup Tournament. The doubleheader started with a 22-2 win for the Lions over the Sun Devils before JU took the second match 21-7. The Lions are now 4-8 and Jessup is 10-4.
What Happened? The Lions bested ASU in the first quarter of partner stunts, picking up all four points that were on offer. In the second quarter of pyramids and tosses, VU snagged the first three points before the Sun Devils pocketed the final routine to cut the Vanguard lead to 7-1. Yet the Blue and Gold returned to a dominant form in the third period of jumps and tumbling, bagging all four points to lead 11-1. In the final period of the combined routines, the Lions kept piling on points until the Sun Devils took one tally in the final act, but Vanguard easily solidified a 22-2 victory.
JU 21 VU 7 Jessup took all four points in the first quarter to put a damper on the Lions early. Though VU performed well in quarter two, the Warriors tallied the first three points, though VU and JU were both awarded a point on the final routine of the interval to make the score 8-1 Jessup. The two teams drew even again on the first act of the third quarter of jumps and tumbling and Vanguard collected points on the third and fourth performances of the frame to cut the gap down to 10-4. However, JU was able to build the scoreboard in the fourth quarter, with the Lions getting one point on the first, third, and fourth routines only.
What was Said? "Thanks to ASU for traveling to Northern California! The Lions played two great games and we battled it out with Jessup today," said Head Coach
