SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Vanguard STUNT began the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament today with a pair of contests but neither favored the Lions. VU played Dallas Baptist closely but fell 15-10 before taking on the STUNT DII runners-up, Davenport (Mich.), who toppled VU 20-5. The Lions drop to 0-3 to start the year, while Davenport goes to 3-0 and DBU improved to 4-0.
VU 10 DBU 15 The Lions struggled against the Patriots in the first quarter of partner stunts, which proved to be the difference. DBU notched all four points in the opening frame to take a commanding 4-0 lead entering the second segment of pyramids and tosses. The Lions and the Patriots were almost equal in that discipline, as both sides tallied two points apiece. That put Dallas Baptist ahead 6-2 at halftime and the Patriots added another point to their advantage on the other side of the break. DBU and VU split one routine in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling, which allowed the Patriots to take the period 3-2. The Blue and Gold tried to make a comeback in the fourth quarter but could only split evenly with DBU, as each side scored six points to make the final score 15-10 in favor of the Patriots.
VU 5 DU 20 The Lions managed points only in the fourth quarter, as a strong Davenport side took the first three frames 4-0. VU won a couple of individual round disciplines and forced a couple to be ruled in favor of both teams to make the final score 20-5.
