LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Men's soccer finished the season for Vanguard on Saturday with a win over Menlo, and the Pacific West Conference honored
Adan Alvarado today as the co-Player of the Week to conclude the weekly awards for the 2025 season. Alvarado becomes the first non-goalie Player of the Week for the program.
VU had two wins this past week and Alvarado had a big hand in orchestrating each. He assisted on the opening goal against Dominican on Thursday and then scored a PK to make it 2-0. After the Penguins had tied it at 2-2, Alvarado made a huge individual effort to notch the game-winner in the 56th minute for a five-point game. He followed that up with the only goal of the Saturday matinee against Menlo, as he bent his free kick of 20-plus yards out around the wall and into the short side of the net before the MC keeper could get to it.
With the regular season in the books, Alvarado enters the PacWest Tournament with the ninth-most shots in the league (34), the third-most shots on goal (20), tied for sixth in goals (nine), and fifth in points (22). The PacWest coaches will soon have their votes tallied for the All-Conference awards, and Alvarado could be in for some extra love. For now, he and the team gear up for a rematch against the Vulcans of Hawaii Hilo, a squad the Lions beat 2-1 on the road. They will now have to do it again in Santa Barbara on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
