Perfection in Fullerton Keeps VU STUNT Alive

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Vanguard STUNT returned to Darling Pavilion today for the second day of the STUNT NAIA Division National Tournament and did face elimination in both matches.  However, the Lions were too much for both OUAZ and Missouri Baptist, taking down the Spirit 24-0 and beating the Spartans 22-2.  The Lions go to 15-9 overall and will play Hope International tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.

What Happened?  The Lions were perfect against OUAZ, as the Lions took every point for the third perfect score in program history, with all three happening this year.  The Spirit end their second season at 5-14.  While the Spartans of Missouri Baptist entered with more experience, the Blue and Gold remained dialed in and took the win to stay undefeated against MBU.  VU took the first quarter of partner stunts 3-1 and then claimed the second period of pyramids and tosses 3-0.  Up 6-1, VU powered through the third frame of jumps and tumbling with a 4-1 decision to lead 10-2 entering the fourth quarter.  The final period of the combined routines went unanimously to the Lions, who took all 12 points to win 22-2. MBU will end the year at 13-6.

Jessup knocked off the Royals 19-9 in the first semifinal bout to put JU in the final.  The Lions and Royals will duke it out tomorrow morning to fill the other open slot in the title game, which is at noon.
