ROCKLIN, Calif. -- Vanguard STUNT took on two foes on Friday to start the Jessup University Tournament. The Lions faced the top-ranked and host Warriors, falling 16-10. But the Blue and Gold responded well, as the squad did not drop a single point to Sonoma State, winning 24-0. The Lions go to 7-4 on the season.
What Happened? Against Jessup, the Lions had their hands full in the first quarter of partner stunts. Vanguard was able to snag one point, but JU claimed the period 4-1. In the second quarter of pyramids and tosses, the Lions were more at home, as VU drew even with the Warriors to trail 6-3 at halftime. In the third quarter of jumps and tumbling, the Lions improved yet again, winning the frame 3-2. The Blue and Gold entered the fourth period of the combined routines down 8-6 but despite a strong showing by VU, Jessup had the edge. JU took an 8-4 decision in the fourth quarter to claim the match 16-10.
Ysabella Hernandez was VU's highest-rated player,
Alexa Christenson was the VU stunter of the game, and
Tenley Romberger was the VU tumbler of the contest.
Against Sonoma State, it was all VU, as the squad produced its sixth shutout of the year and its first perfect game with the 24-0 victory.

Tatum Thompson was the Vanguard stunter of the game, and
Kaitlyn Adsit was the VU tumbler of the game.
