STUNT Collects Two Wins to End Regular Season

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Despite the defeat to Jessup yesterday, the Vanguard STUNT program racked up two wins on Saturday over Hope International and Arizona Christian.  The Lions took down the Royals 21-12 and ended up beating the Firestorm 16-0 to end the Hope Regional Tournament 2-1.  VU will end the regular season campaign at 11-4.

What Happened?  Facing the Royals, VU lost out on the first routine but took points on the next few acts of partner stunts to level the score at 3-3 after one period.  The Blue and Gold were able to claim the first point of the second quarter of pyramids and tosses, claiming three more tallies to lead 7-4 entering halftime.
The third frame of jumps and tumbling helped the Lions to create separation from the Royals, as VU won the frame 4-1 to lead 11-5 entering the fourth.  The longer routines of the fourth frame saw the Lions claim at least two points for each routine, racking up the 21-12 victory.
VU was then in control during the contest against ACU.  The Firestorm have a small team and could field a squad for certain routines, which pitted VU against the gold standard of the STUNT handbook.  The Lions claimed all the points in routines where they faced ACU but lost a few points in routines when they were judged against the standards.  Despite not claiming maximum points, VU blanked the Firestorm 16-0 and nailed a few routines of high difficulty to build momentum entering the break before the national tournament.
.
What was Said?  "We needed to find ourselves again after our last match against Jessup and I really like the progress that we made today," said Head Coach Leslie Allen.  "We came together today and we just need to keep building on that the next few weeks."

What's Next?  The Lions will head to the STUNT NAIA National Championship in Oklahoma City, which begins on April 22.
