TEMPE, Ariz. -- Vanguard STUNT opened the season with a pair of wins on Saturday, posting 19 points in each contest. VU took on Arizona Christian and Arizona State, blanking ACU 19-0 and beating ASU 19-11 to start the year 2-0.
What Happened? The Blue and Gold would not surrender a point to the first-year Firestorm team in the campaign opener. VU scored three points in the first quarter of partner stunts and equaled that total in the second quarter of pyramids and tosses. The team then upped the ante to four points in the third quarter of jumps and tumbling to take a 10-0 advantage. The final frame heavily favored the Lions, who put up nine points across the three combined routines to claim the 19-0 victory.
The Stunt Devils were more of a challenge, as ASU would put up points in the first half to keep the match close. Even though they were challenged on the scoreboard, VU would not falter in the second half. Vanguard blanked the Stunt Devils 4-0 in the third quarter and then swept all the points in the fourth quarter to collect the 19-11 win.
What was Said? "We gained momentum after our first game and kept the intensity going all the way through the game against ASU," said Head Coach Leslie Allen. "It was awesome to see the team sweep the fourth quarter and I look forward to taking these positive strides into our next matches."
What's Next? The Lions will play UC Davis on March 3 in Rocklin, California.
