STUNT Gathers Two Wins in Rocklin

ROCKLIN, Calif -- Vanguard STUNT continues to impress as the season moves along, as the Lions played two matches at William Jessup Friday night.  VU first took down the hosting Warriors 14-9 and then defeated St. Mary's College 20-0.  The Blue and Gold are now 10-3 on the season.    

What Happened?  VU 14 WJU 9  The Lions trailed after the first quarter, as the Warriors proved to be stronger in the partner stunts.  WJU was up 3-1 and the Warriors then collected three more points during the second frame of pyramids and tosses.  But the Lions picked up two points as well, with the hosts ahead 6-4 at halftime. 

The Blue and Gold were much stronger in the jump and tumbling routines, as VU won the third quarter 3-1.  That leveled the game at 7-7 entering the fourth period, when all three styles are blended into one routine.  The three performances in the fourth were solidly in Vanguard's favor, as the team emerged with an 8-2 point margin in the fourth to win 14-9.

VU 20 SMC 0 It was a complete performance for the Lions in the second game of the day.  The club team of the Gaels did not score a single point, as VU maximized the point haul in three of the four quarters.  VU took four points in the first and third frames while tallying nine in the fourth.  Vanguard only managed three in the second quarter but it was more than enough for the team to secure the second shutout of the season.

Why is it Important?  Vanguard is now 4-0 against WJU and is looking good on the mat that will host the 2022 STUNT National Championships in a few weeks.

What was Said?  "William Jessup came out strong but we answered back in quarters two through four.  Really proud of the victory," said Head Coach Leslie Allen.

What's Next?  The team will play Sonoma State at 9:00 a.m. and Sacramento State at 10:00 a.m.
