IRVINE, Calif. -- Vanguard STUNT went back to Concordia University Irvine on Friday for the third time this year. After a scrimmage to start the season and a regular-season loss to the Eagles, the Lions were able to take down CUI. Winning 16-11, VU goes to 9-3 overall, while the Eagles fall to 3-3.
What Happened? The Blue and Gold were able to take the majority of the points in the first quarter, as VU was ahead 4-2 after the partner stunts were completed. The two schools were very close during the pyramids and tosses of the second quarter, with the teams splitting on some of the routines. However, the Lions were able to snag the extra point, winning the period 3-2. That took the match to halftime, with VU ahead 7-4.
It was a similar story during the jumps and tumbling of the third quarter, with Vanguard claiming that portion of the game 3-2. Entering the final quarter, the Lions were ahead 10-6. The longer routines, where all the different quarters are blended into one flowing performance, were nip and tuck. Both sides scored points in each of the three routines but once more, the Blue and Gold remained supreme, taking the fourth 6-5 and winning the game 16-11.
What was said? "I am really proud of the team, they played a really strong game and we can take these positives into the final tournament of the season," said Head Coach Leslie Allen.
What's Next? The team will go to William Jessup on April 8 and 9, playing four teams. The first day will see the Lions play Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and William Jessup at 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
