FULLERTON, Calif. -- Vanguard's STUNT team faced two foes on Wednesday night, as the team traveled to Hope International. The Lions first faced the Lancers of Cal Baptist before taking on the hosting Royals, going 1-1 on the night. VU fell in the first matchup 21-4 to CBU but came back to defeat the Royals 17-3 in the second game of the night. The Lions go 8-3 on the season.
What Happened? CBU 21 VU 4 Vanguard entered winless against CBU but got off to a good start, splitting points over the first routine of partner stunts. But the Lancers carried the rest of the points in the first quarter, leading the match 4-1 after the first. CBU increased the lead to 5-1 during the second frame, as the two schools performed the pyramids and partner toss routines. VU was able to claw back a point during the quarter but no more, as the team trailed 5-2 at halftime. The Lancers would pull away during the third quarter of jumps and tumbling, going up 10-3. The long routines in the fourth quarter gave the Lions two points but they could not garner any more, falling 21-4 at the end of the match.
VU 17 HIU 3 The Lions were able to pick up plenty of points early, leading 6-0 as the first came to a close. The Royals got a point back as the teams moved to the second quarter but VU continued to play well, leading 7-1 going into the intermission.
The Blue and Gold took more points in the third quarter, as the Lions remained on top 11-2 entering the fourth quarter of action. The final period saw the Lions take a majority of the points, leading from start to finish for a 17-3 victory.
What's Next? The Blue and Gold will travel to Concordia University Irvine on Friday, April 1, for a 5:00 p.m. game, in an attempt to avenge an 11-10 defeat last time out against the Eagles early in the season.
