IRVINE, Calif. - Looking to regain momentum after suffering a pair of loses the day before, Vanguard STUNT went 2-0 to round out the opening tournament of their season. After securing a victory by way of forfeit in Game One of the day, the Blue and Gold (2-2) turned their attention to the Aggies of University of California - Davis. The Lions walked off the mat with a dominating 19-3 victory.
Vanguard kicked off the game by winning the first quarter 4-0 and then took the overall score of the second frame by a 3-1 count. With Partner Stunts and Pyramids and Tosses behind the Pride, they rode a 7-1 score into the halftime intermission. Transitioning into the Jumps and Tumbling portion of the match, the Lions secured a second consecutive period victory with claiming three points to their opponents single tally. With victory nearly secured and the scoreboard reading 10-2, the Blue and Gold moved to the Team Routines in Quarter Four. The first round saw a 2-1 count favoring the Pride before they swept the final two outings for the 15 point margin of victory.
The Lions move to 4-0 all-time against the Aggies and also are undefeated against the Sun Devils of Arizona State University whom they were awarded a forfeited victory over earlier in the day.
A STUNT match has four quarters. The first three periods all feature four routines with the final fourth quarter containing only three routines. Quarter 1 is partner stunts, Quarter 2 is pyramids, Quarter 3 is jumps and tumbling, and Quarter 4 is team routine where the previous three quarters are combined. Routines in the first three frames average around 30 seconds each whereas the fourth quarter routines are over 90 seconds each. There are seven levels of routines a team can perform ranging from beginner (1) to advanced (7), with each step becoming slightly more challenging.
