Lions Eliminated from National Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - The Vanguard Lions (12-6) competed in the Ninth Annual College STUNT National Championship, held at the Lloyd Noble Center on the beautiful University of Oklahoma campus today as the fourth seed in the field. They took on the first seed Davenport University first, losing 21-2 before playing an elimination game against third seed Oklahoma Baptist University where they fell by an identical score to the Bison.

Davenport 21, Vanguard 2

The Panthers led 4-0 after the first quarter, earning a perfect score along the way. Vanguard scored their first point of the tournament in the second frame, but found themselves trailing 8-1 at the intermission. A third consecutive perfect period by DU gave them an insurmountable 12-1 lead after three quarters. In the final frame, the Panthers once again took all nine points for their 19 point margin.

Oklahoma Baptist 21, Vanguard 2

The opening quarter started out more positive for the Blue and Gold in the elimination game. They trailed 4-1 after the first period as well as both teams posting identical scores in the second quarter. Exiting the halftime break down 8-2, the Bison controlled the second half scoring all 13 points they could have been awarded to take the victory.

In their first ever trip to the STUNT National Championship, the Lions competed against one of the most storied teams in the sports history (Davenport) as well as an NCAA Division II school in OBU. Vanguard entered on a 10 game winning streak and will end the season winning 12 of their final 15 games.
