COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Pit was the site of the first ever STUNT games for the Vanguard Lions as they played host to former GSAC schools Concordia University - Irvine and California Baptist University. The Tri-match first pitted the Blue and Gold against Concordia before the Lions tackled Cal Baptist before CUI and CBU rounded out the day of competition. In the end, the Eagles came out victories going 2-0, the Lancers ended 1-1, and the Lions finished 0-2.

"Today was such a special day for the first Vanguard STUNT team in school history," head coach Leslie Allen remarked. "I am so proud of the hard work the team has put in during this young inaugural season and we are building towards a great future."

Concordia 17, Vanguard 7

To open the programs history, the squared off against their closer rival who is just a few minutes down the 405 Freeway. Concordia, who is in its third year of STUNT, scored 17 out of a possible 18 points thanks to a coaches challenge which overturned a call that was initially given in Vanguard's favor. The Lions scored one point in partner stunts, pyramids, jumps and tumbling, and scored four out of a possible nine points in the team routine portion of the fourth quarter.

Cal Baptist 15, Vanguard 11

Building on the immediate experience from the first game, the Pride was in much better shape on the scoreboard throughout the contest. halfway through the first quarter, the Blue and Gold led 2-1 before ending the period trailing 3-2. After the first routine of the second frame, the match was knotted at 3-3 and CBU took a 5-3 lead into the 10 minute halftime intermission. In the third quarter, the Lancers build up added to their lead outscoring the Lions 3-2 in the frame bringing the overall game score to 8-5. In the decisive fourth quarter where three times as many points are available, CBU posted a 3-1 edge in round one, before the teams tied 2-2 in the second round, and Vanguard ended the day with a 3-2 round victory.

Coach Allen went on to say, "I want to thank Concordia and Cal Baptist for traveling down and for being apart of the STUNT launch at Vanguard. It was a memorable day for the University, the student-athletes and their families, as well as the great crowd support we received!"
