SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Vanguard traveled to UC San Diego for an exhibition baseball game against the Tritons on Tuesday evening. At the end of nine innings, the scoreboard read UCSD 10, Vanguard 3.
Senior third baseman Jason Ochart (Glendale, Calif.) had no problem with the Triton's pitching staff, managing two base knocks to go .500 on the day. He also stole a base in the contest.
The Pride's Bryce Arroyo (Brea, Calif.) and John Schwer (Burbank, Calif.) recorded two stolen bases apiece in the exhibition loss.
Vanguard's four remaining hits belonged to Arroyo, Schwer, Francisco Torres (Cathedral City, Calif.) and Taylor McKnight (Mission Viejo, Calif.).
Schwer tallied the Blue and Gold's lone RBI.
Eight Lions' pitchers got work in on the mound during the game.
Senior Travis Tomsen (Riverside, Calif.) threw one inning and struck out three Triton batters.
The Lions return to action on February 1st in Phoenix, where VU will face Golden State Athletic Conference newcomer Arizona Christian. Friday's game is slated for 2:00pm. VU and ACU will close out the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 10:00am.
