COSTA MESA -- After being named the first Pacific West All-Conference pitcher in program history, VU starter
Chris Paruleski received additional honors at the regional level recently. Paruleski was named a National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) DII West All-Region Honorable Mention player, a DII Conference Commissioners Association (DIICCA) All-West Region Second Team member, and an West All-Region Second Team player for the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings. Paruleski netted a career-best 2.08 ERA in 12 starts with an 8-2 record. He ended the regular season with the best ERA in the PacWest, and he was tied for second in the league with four complete games. Opponents hit .241 against the right-hander, a top-five mark before the postseason began.
The NCBWA association was founded in 1962 and is made up of writers, broadcasters, and publicists of the sport, and members vote for the yearly awards. The West Region pool is drawn from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), and the PacWest, which got 10 players on the first and second teams and seven honorable mentions in 2025. Paruleski joined Point Loma's Brandon Jackel and San Francisco State's David Eichhorn as the three honorable mention pitchers.
The DIICCA is voted on by Sports Information Directors and draws from the same three conferences. The PacWest led the way in 2025 with 14 total selections across the first and second teams, along with the player and pitcher of the year. There were four starters on each team and Paruleski was joined by CUI's Jake Covey, Jackel, and SFSU's Nathan Shinn on the Second Team. The list was senior-heavy, with 25 total selections compared to seven across the other three classes.
The ABCA was founded in 1945 and has over 15,000 members. The regional players were voted on by members and is led by DII Committee, which is made up of eight coaches. There were 12 players from the PacWest on the two teams and Paruleski was the only pitcher on the Second Team from the PacWest. Both Ryan Humphreys and Zach Yates of Westmont made the First Team, with only five pitcher slots available for each honor roll.
