The athlete:  Lacey started in every game last year as a collegiate rookie for the Lions…second on the team in free throws made…third-leading Lion rebounder with 6.9 per game…averaged 10 points per game…graduated in 2003 from San Clemente High School…played for Coach Mary Mulligan in the South Coast League…Most Improved Player on the SCHS varsity as a junior…received Coaches’ Award as a senior…2003 All-League player…2003 2nd-Team All-CIF…SCHS won four South Coast League Championships and two CIF Championships while Burns was there…also played basketball for the OC Spirit Club team…has played basketball since she was in eighth grade…versatile, athletic player…should spend time at the guard and forward positions again for the Lions…talented player with a fantastic work ethic…could push for an All-GSAC award as a sophomore…look for Burns to have another big impact in 2004-05.

The person:  Lacey Ann Burns was born in San Clemente, California on May 21, 1985 to her parents Terry and Kim Burns…is the oldest of four children…is an Exercise Sports Science major at Vanguard…nickname is “B”…enjoys eating dinner at home on family night…favorite movie is “Napoleon Dynamite”…sports hero is Kerri Walsh…likes the book “Redeeming Love”…prefers the colors turquoise and pink, and the number 25…enjoys surfing, coaching, and walking her dog…would like to meet Jessica Simpson…believes that cancer is the biggest problem in the world…doesn’t like it when people are untruthful…likes that there is never a dull moment with her team…has learned from life to put others before herself…playing basketball has taught her about competitiveness and to strive for excellence…wants to be a basketball coach or personal trainer.

Her thoughts:  I selected Vanguard because it is a private Christian University that is close to home.  I like the close atmosphere and that the beach is nearby.
