The athlete:  Kelly joins the Lions from Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona…collegiate rookie with outstanding athletic credentials…2003 graduate of IHS where she played for Coach Robert Contrata in the Northwest Region…three-time Team MVP…four-time All-Region player…two-time Region Player of the Year…All-State 2^nd-Team…holds IHS’s career record for total rebounds, points in a season, and blocked shots…scored over 2000 points and grabbed over 1500 rebounds in her high school career…also played volleyball in high school…competed five years for the Arizona Elite club team…has played basketball since she was in the third grade…6’0” forward with great abilities…will be a four-year force for the Lions…will earn a starting position as a freshman…awesome player and person…huge pick up for the Lions…will be a major factor in the VU women’s basketball program during her career.

The person:  Kelly was born in Phoenix, Arizona on April 12, 1985 to her parents Dan and Susan Schmidt…has one older brother who plays basketball…nickname is “AZ”…will be a Liberal Studies student at Vanguard…likes to eat Chinese food…sports hero is Pat Tillman…favorite movie is “Forrest Gump”…watches “Friends” on television…loves the color blue and the number 33…roots for the Arizona Diamondbacks…enjoys surfing, jet skiing, cliff jumping, and reading Harry Potter books…favorite place is Arizona…would like to meet Paul Walker…believes that sin is the biggest problem in the world…really enjoys her teammates and the VU team chemistry…has learned that life is easier if you don’t stress…competing in athletics has taught her about discipline and teamwork…wants to become a Teacher.

Her thoughts:  I felt Vanguard was where God wanted me.  I love the Christian environment and the location.
