Vanguard University

The athlete: Debbie had a solid sophomore season last year, earning part-time starting duties and averaging 4.6 rebounds per game…was a two-sport athlete at Page High School prior to attending Vanguard…led her basketball team to the State Championship while earning All-Conference and All-State honors her senior year…vocal leader who works very hard…came in well conditioned and ready to have a great year…will be one of the team captains this season…career high at VU is 15 points and 12 rebounds…expected to have a tremendous junior season.

The person: Debbie was born in Page, Arizona on October 31, 1980 to Robert and Shirley Candelaria…Business major at Vanguard…her sports heroes are her brothers, Bryan, Kevin and Joe…favorite place is Page, Arizona…enjoys singing the National Anthem at VU games…loves her Mother’s home cooking…feels the lack of love for one and another is the world’s biggest problem…life has taught her that you must learn to hit the curve balls that life throws you…has learned from athletics to be patient…wants to become a loving wife and mother.

Her thoughts: I chose Vanguard because my brother Kevin was here, and because it is a Christian University near the beach.  I love the fact that I get to be in an environment that allows me to express my love for Christ.
