Vanguard University

The athlete:  Tiffany had knee surgery at the end of December and will redshirt in 2005…arrives at Vanguard from Woodcreek High School in Roseville, California where she played for Coach Banks…received the Golden Glove award for WHS as a sophomore and junior…helped lead her team to a conference championship while at WHS…played club ball for the Livermore Smoke, Fire and Ice, and the Lady Wolves…has played softball for 11 years…bats right and throws right…natural catcher…also working on her outfield skills…worked hard this fall…will spend this spring rehabilitating her knee and taking in her first collegiate season on the sidelines.

The person:  Tiffany Marie Mortensen was born on September 24, 1986 in Los Gatos, California…father is Thomas Mortensen…mother is Jill Waldvogel…has an older brother and a younger sister…teammates call her “Tiff”…likes to eat tacos…sports hero is Benito Santiago…favorite movie is “The Sweetest Thing”…enjoys watching “The OC” on TV…loves the color purple and the number ten…likes the book “A Purpose Driven Life”…enjoys spending time at the beach…cheers for the Kings, the Giants, and the 49ers…hobbies include doing outdoor activities and hanging out with friends and family…would like to meet Jesus…thinks that ignorance is the biggest problem in the world…likes the encouragement among her VU teammates…has learned from life to remember that God loves us…playing softball has taught her about patience and how to take advice and apply it…seeks a career in the film industry.

Her thoughts:  I came to Vanguard to gain a firm foundation of Christianity.  I like the community feeling and love for Jesus on campus.

Coach Renkoski’s comments:  Despite an injury riddled start, Tiffany remains committed to her teammates and has a positive outlook on getting healthy and making a difference for the Lions.
