The athlete:  Jennifer is in her first season for the Lions…freshman from Gilroy, California…2003 graduate of Gilroy High School where she played for Coach Julie Bergren…Honor Roll athlete…two-time Team MVP…two-time All-League player…three-sport high school athlete…also played softball for the Salinas Storm…has played softball for eight years…bats and throws right…fundamental outfielder…solid pitcher who will see her share of time on the mound…will need to adjust to the collegiate hitters…will improve with time on the mound…good hitter…hard worker with a great attitude…could compete for time as the designated hitter as well…great potential…could be a big key to the 2003 season for VU…has a great future with the Lions.

The person:  Jennifer Amanda Olvera was born in San Jose, California on June 15, 1985 to her parents Art and Isabel Olvera…is the oldest of four children…teammates call her “Jo Jo” or “Jen” for short is majoring in Communications at Vanguard…sports hero is Lisa Fernandez…likes to eat pizza and chocolate…favorite movie is “A Walk To Remember”…loves the color blue and the number 21…is a San Francisco Giants fanatic…watches the TV show “The OC”…enjoys coaching and playing basketball, and playing on the computer…would like to meet Gwen Stephani…thinks that pollution and smoking are the biggest problems in the world…likes the chemistry on the VU softball team…has learned from life that when something goes bad, you have to give it time to go away…competing in athletics has taught her about focus, commitment, and leadership…wants to become a coach and a hero to someone.

Her thoughts:  I picked VU because it is a great school and I loved the location and the softball team.  I really like the people and the friendly environment.
