The athlete:  Holly returns for her third season with the Lions…has started games in at least four different positions in her two-year career…graduated in 2001 from Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington…three-sport high school athlete…captain of the softball team for two years under Coach Shelley Brown…MVP her senior year…1^st Team All-Kingco League as a third baseman…member of 1999 State Championship team…two-time District and Kingco Champions…played travel ball for the Sammamish Heat and the South End Rebels…has played ball for 15 years…switch hitter…throws right…started primarily at third base as a sophomore…hit .264 last year…scored 23 runs…versatile player with good fundamentals…decent speed and instincts for the game…could play infield or outfield for the Lions as a junior…brings competitiveness and energy to the team…should be ready to excel this year.

The person:  Holly Renee Martinez was born on October 3, 1983 in Seattle, Washington to her parents Ricardo and Roxanne Martinez…is youngest of two children…nicknames include “Holla”, “H”, and “Marty”…junior in Communications at Vanguard…likes to eat pasta and bread…sports hero is Horace Wormely…favorite movies are “The Outsiders” and “Goonies” and “Dirty Dancing”…roots for the Seattle Mariners…likes the TV show “The Newly Weds”…loves the color blue and the numbers three and 13…hobbies include going to concerts, watching movies, sleeping, and hanging out with “the girls” and her boyfriend…would like to meet Justin Timberlake…believes the world’s biggest problems are selfishness and lack of love…has learned from life that God is always in control…competing in sports has taught her about mental toughness and discipline…wants to be a loving wife and involved in music or sports media.

Her thoughts:  I chose Vanguard because of the location, the atmosphere, and to play softball.  I really like my teammates, the professors, and supporting the men’s basketball team.
