The athlete:  Holly starts her second season at Vanguard…was a 2001 graduate of Skyline High School in Sammamish, Washington…three-sport high school athlete…captain of the softball team for two years under Coach Shelley Brown…MVP her senior year…1^st Team All-Kingco League as a third baseman…member of 1999 State Championship team…two-time District and Kingco Champions…played travel ball for the Sammamish Heat and the South End Rebels…switch hitter…throws right…has played softball for 14 years…split time starting at second base or centerfield as a freshman for VU…scored 23 runs…good fundamentals…high-energy player…will play multiple positions again in 2003 for the Lions…ready for another big year as a sophomore.

The person:  Holly Renee was born on October 3, 1983 in Seattle, Washington…parents are Ricardo and Roxanne Martinez…has one older brother…teammates call her “Holla”…studying Communications at VU…likes to eat teriyaki chicken, pasta, and corn dogs…sports hero is Edgar Martinez…favorite movie is “The Outsiders”…likes the TV show “Roswell”…loves the color blue and the numbers three and 13…fanatic of the Seattle Mariners…enjoys listening to music, watching movies, sleeping, laughing, camping, and dancing…believes the world’s biggest problems are selfishness and lack of love…has learned from life that God is always in control…competing in sports has taught her about mental toughness and discipline…wants to be a loving wife and mother with a successful husband.

Her thoughts:  Holly picked Vanguard because of the Christian atmosphere, the great professors, and to play softball.  I really like my team, all the friends I’ve made, and the boys basketball team.
