LONG BEACH, Calif. -- VU women's soccer was awarded the Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week today in Grayton Normand after her 10-save effort on Saturday night.  The senior keeper, in her fifth career start, almost doubled her total save count for the year in the contest, as she now rests on 19 and set a career-high at the end of the evening.  She rejected six Cal State LA attempts in the first half and denied four more in the second to assist in Vanguard's 1-1 draw with the previous week's #24 team in the United Soccer Coaches poll.  Normand's previous high was the five she stopped against CSU San Bernardino at home on September 3, and she is third VU keeper to net the weekly honor.  However, she does not have much time to rest on the laurel, as she carries her first career award into tomorrow's non-conference contest against Fresno Pacific.
