LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Vanguard men's track and field closed out a busy weekend with a showing at the Occidental Invitational at Jack Kemp Stadium. The field team posted the highest finishes among the compact group of VU competitors.
Beau Swett made his mark in the long jump, launching out at 22'3 ¾" (6.80m) on his second attempt to win the event. It was a new personal best for Swett and the fourth best leap in program history. Swett also featured in high jump, with a 6'2 ¾" (1.90m) result to secure another podium spot in third. He was joined by freshman
Addison Altermatt, who equaled his personal-best of 5'8 ¾", taking 17th.
Blake Bazaldua was Vanguard's sole representative in shot put (11.17m) and discus (33.44m), where he had career bests in both events, finishing 15th in each.
As for the runners, the Lions put out three competitors (
Caleb Dickerson,
Jesse O'Campo,
Ommar Arroyo) in the 5000m, with Arroyo the highest finisher with a 15:26.02 time.
The monstrous 10,000m race was taken on by
Rylan Starnes, who debuted in the event with a 36:48.05 time.
