BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Vanguard men's golf's
Fisher Ransom shot seven under par to sport a podium finish at the WWU Invitational at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club. Ransom led the event in total birdies (19) and had rounds of 70, 67, and 72 (209), placing him with the joint-best total for the two-day event. UBC Okanagan's Ryan Vest, however, outlasted a competitive four-way tie, holding on through three playoff holes to secure the individual crown.
The Blue and Gold placed ninth out of the 14 competing teams (299-291-297), while Simon Fraser went 14-under par to reclaim the top position in the final round (282-289-279).
The Course: Originally opened in 1912, the Bellingham GCC is known for its classic design featuring tree-lined fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and meticulously maintained greens. Thanks to its exceptional drainage and top-tier maintenance, the 6,561-yard course stands out as one of the driest and most playable courses in Whatcom County year-round.
What Happened? Ransom's 209 scoreline would pace the Blue and Gold as he started the invitational, had nine pars and six birdies on the opening round. In the second round, Ransom issued eight birdies, including four straight on holes 10-13 for his best round of the invitational. On the final day, the senior had six more birdies as well as his third eagle of the season on the first hole. Ransom was tied first on par-fives (-8) and third on par-threes, going even.
VU's next highest finisher was
Alexander Elia, who closed out on steady rounds of 77-75-75 to end in 54th with 227 strokes. Elia was fifth in total pars (38) and used 15 pars on the final round to jump four places. He also clipped four birdies at the invitational.
Rex Robinette and
Tyler Williams tallied identical scores of 228 to each finish 62nd. Robinette (79-73-76) recovered after a harder first round, claiming four of his six birdies in the next two rounds, as well as an eagle to close the course.
Williams's (77-77-74) steady progression with 33 pars helped jump him eight positions to stay with the pack. His best round came on day two, netting three birdies out of the first five holes of the round to send him on his way to a strong finish.
Kyle Koski ended the event in 75th, with a score of 233 (75-76-82) and a total of five birdies.
