Blistering Year for Lions in the Classroom

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The Pacific West Conference announced the 2025-26 All-Academic honor roll today and the Lions netted 238 winners.  Each student-athlete had to earn at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average and be eligible for participation or practice in their sport to be qualified for the award.  Baseball led all VU teams with 39 selections and women's soccer topped the female squads with 31 victors.  The department doubled its final count of 119 scholar-athletes from the NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete list from the 2023-24 school year in 2024-25.

In addition, each of the above teams had team GPA over 3.00, with the department posting a 3.445 GPA as a group.  Cross country led the men with a 3.55 mark, while soccer topped the women's side and the department as a whole with a 3.73 GPA.  Women's soccer received the Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) Jungkeit Family Academic Excellence Award at the VU Awards show in recognition of this accomplishment.

The Faculty Athletics Representative for VU, Associate Director of Academic Strategic Initiatives, Amy Jungkeit, expressed her happiness about the Blue and Gold doing so well in the classroom.  "I am incredibly proud that over 200 of our student-athletes have earned a place on the PacWest All-Academic Team. This achievement is a testament to their unwavering commitment to academic excellence and their dedication to being true student-athletes—as students first. It also reflects the vital role our faculty and staff play in mentoring, challenging, and supporting these students throughout their academic journeys."
