HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Vanguard baseball dominated the Saturday PacWest doubleheader against Hawaii Pacific, winning by scores of 7-2 and 10-4 at Hans L'Orange Park.
The Lions held the Sharks offense to a combined 11 hits over the two games. Meanwhile, five different Lions recorded an RBI in game one, while Tyler Shigenaka, Noah Madole and Brian Paymard all homered in game two.Â
It was the seventh time this season that the Lions hit at least three homers in a game.

After losing the first two games by a combined score of 23-3, Vanguard needed a solid pitching performance and got one from Chris Paruleski. The momentum stopper won his sixth straight start, logging a complete game with just six hits and two runs allowed.Â
He walked one and struck out three in an efficient 89-pitch outing.
VU got a run in the second, with HPU responding with two in the bottom half. That would be the only runs for the Sharks.
VU tied the score in the fifth as Josh Schleichardt's single plated Shigenaka.
Paruleski retired 11 straight Sharks at one point, which included three-up, three-down efforts in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
The Lions broke through for five runs in the seventh off relievers Ryan Inouye and Vicente Molina.
Three Lions – Christopher Famolaro, Shigenaka and Angel Perez – were hit by the pitch. Schleichardt and Tristan Gallegos drew bases loaded RBI walks. In addition, Levi Hall notched a two-RBI single.
Except for a one-out walk, Paruleski pitched a clean seventh as the PacWest ERA leader (2.15) allowed two or less runs for the sixth straight start.
Vanguard 10, Hawaii Pacific 4
The Lions posted eight runs over the first three innings to build a big cushion on an afternoon where the Sharks utilized nine pitchers.
Paymard started the scoring with a towering two-run shot to left field in the second. Shigenaka went back-to-back to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Abe Hernandez doubled, followed by a Gallegos hit by pitch and Jarred Mazzaferro walk. The fourth win scored via a wild pitch. After Paymard walked to reload the bases, Shigenaka plated Gallegos on a sacrifice fly.
Madole stepped up and cranked his eighth home run of the season, a three-run moonshot that gave the Lions an 8-0 lead.
VU starter Christopher Ceballos pitched brilliantly in his 4.0 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with no runs. He earned the win to improve to 2-2.
HPU got one run in the fifth and scored three in the seventh, but the Lions also generated a pair of insurance runs in the top half of the seventh as Colton Perez drew a bases loaded walk and Gallegos delivered an RBI groundout.
