HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Vanguard baseball team lost 12-2 in game one of a PacWest baseball series to Hawaii Pacific at Hans L'Orange Park on Thursday.
The Sharks scored all 12 runs in the first three innings, including six in the first and five in the second.
Vanguard tallied a run in the second and another in the sixth.
After the Lions went down in order in the first, the Sharks posted six straight hits to lead off the bottom half. Noah Blythe hit a two-run home run to highlight the inning.Â
Noah Madole slammed his seventh home run of the season in the second to get the Blue and Gold on the scoreboard. Madole now ranks third on the team with seven homers.
But the Sharks plated five runs in the second to take an 11-1 lead. Hawaii Pacific strung together five consecutive hits in the frame, including a run-scoring double from Daniel Johnson.
HPU added a run in the third as Skyler Agnew scored on Blythe's infield single.
Fred Buckson banged a solo shot to left in the sixth for the final scoring in the game. It was his eighth of the season.Â
Spencer Edmondson took the loss to fall to 3-6. Colton Perez made his Lion debut on the mound, throwing a scoreless inning in the fifth. Dakota Henson also struck out a pair of batters in his lone inning of work.
The Sharks used five pitchers in the game with Jacob Vanek earning the victory.
