LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The Pacific West Conference announced the end of year awards today and Vanguard men's basketball earned its first All-Conference player as
Anthony Tello was named to the Third Team. It is Tello's first All-Conference nod in his two seasons at Vanguard. He ended the year eighth in the PacWest with 14.3 points per game and 12th in total points with 373. In addition, Tello was fourth in the league with 54 steals and had the sixth-best free throw percentage at 75.8%.
The guard started every game for the Blue and Gold and racked up a team-high 702 minutes this campaign. His 373 points led the Lions in 2024-25 and he picked up 55 assists to finish second on the squad. He ended with a 42.3% field goal percentage and a 30.9% rate from downtown. He concluded the year with 15 blocks, which was second on the roster, along with his steal tally of 54. He led all VU players with 270 points during the conference season and shot 39.4% from the field during PacWest play.
He set VU career-highs for a season across multiple categories, including minutes played, points, field goals made (135), three-pointers made (30), rebounds (97), assists, and blocks. In addition to high marks across his season stat line, Tello reset many of his single-game career highs, including his 30 points against La Sierra on November 12, 23 field goal attempts at Hawaii Pacific on January 2, four triples against La Sierra, a 10-for-11 effort from the free throw line at PLNU on February 22, nine rebounds against Jessup on December 21, and three blocks at CUI on January 9.
His Vanguard career ended on Saturday and he departs the program with 692 points scored in 52 games for an average of 13.3 per contest. He netted 176 total rebounds, 121 steals, 22 blocks, a 44.1% field goal percentage, a 29.7% conversion rate from beyond the arc, and a 73.5% free throw percentage.
