SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Ommar Arroyo and Chris Watson led the Vanguard men's track and field contingent with a couple of second place finishes at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invitational on Saturday.
The event – hosted by Point Loma – featured NCAA Division I squad Navy, along with PacWest competitors Biola and the host Sea Lions.
Arroyo established a personal-best in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:01.23. He finished second only to The Master's Ty Clanton, who won the race in 9:44.57.
Watson competed in the 110 meter hurdles and posted a time of 15.17 seconds. He finished ahead of two Navy sprinters in Logan Howe (15.21) and David Walker (15.22).
Leading a group of five Lions in the 800 meters was Cooper Anderson, who clocked 1:58.51 for 23rd place. The duo of Jesse O'Campo (2:01.84) and Anthony Kennen (2:05.98) delivered personal-bests in the event. Anderson was also VU's top finisher in the 1500 meters, forging a time of 4:15.57.
The two fastest Lions in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash were Jonathan Krynicki and Donovan Ralls. Krynicki came in 12th in the 200 in 22.18 seconds and 14th in the 100 (10.93). Ralls posted a 11.13 in the 100 and 22.39 in the 200.
The 4x400 relay contingent of Isaiah Feaver, Ralls, Blake Rodriguez and Krynicki notched a 3:21.44 for third place.
Two Lions competed in field events. Freshman Zachary Velasco tied for 11th with a top clearance of 5-11.25 (1.81m). Rodriguez had a top leap of 18 feet, 5.75 inches (5.63m) in the long jump.
